A Modest Proposal by Ken Blackwell

by merrie  Today 4:49 PM    1
I have a modest proposal. There is one thing we could do that would make a small contribution to lowering temperatures: We could bury, not burn, the bodies of unborn children who have been aborted under Mr. Obama’s health care takeover. Currently, the practice is to incinerate the hundreds of thousands of bodies cruelly of those denied the right to life. If we really seek “common ground” on this contentious question, we might start by giving the unborn children a decent burial. Liberal writer Naomi Wolf has written movingly of the “baby furies” that she felt were pursuing her after her abortion. She noted that in Japan, there are touching ceremonies of little paper boats with candles floated down slow-moving rivers. These ceremonies are designed to help women cope with this most terrible of choices. Part of the terrible contentiousness of this question is the unwillingness of most liberals even to concede that the unborn child is a child. In 1983, the U.S. Supreme Court .....

And, as one might expect, part of the Pachauri empire is a branch office in Washington DC, based at 1101 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, within sight of the Capitol. Called TERI-NA (The Energy and Resources Institute, North America), it was set up as a “501(c)(3) company” (non-profit) in 1990, it is not even very discrete in its objectives, telling us that: Its activities have centred around conducting research and organizing workshops/conferences to sensitize the decision-makers in North America to developing countries’ concern about energy and environment.

The Audacity of Debt

Democrats ridiculed Mr. Bush as "the most fiscally irresponsible President in history," but then they saw him and raised. They took an $800 billion deficit and made it $1.4 trillion in 2009 and perhaps that high again in 2010. In 10 months they have approved more than $1 trillion in spending that has saved union public jobs but has done little to assist private job creation. Still to come is the multitrillion-dollar health bill and another $100 billion to $200 billion "jobs" bill. We've never obsessed over the budget deficit, because the true cost of government is the amount it spends, not the amount it borrows. Milton Friedman used to say that the nation would be far better off with a budget half the current size but with larger deficits. Mr. Obama and his allies in Congress have done the opposite: They have increased the budget by 50% and financed the spending with IOUs. The national debt held by the public reached its peak in the Reagan years at 40.9% and hit 49.2% in 1995.

The moral here is that roses are red, violets are blue/If Al can write poetry, so can you. Meanwhile, back on Capitol Hill, Sen. Reid, the leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate, finds Little Eva - or at least his Republican colleagues - floating off on melting ice floes on a feverish acid sea. (Don't blame me for all these clashing, clunky metaphors; once you get caught up in Al's poesy and Senate oratory, it's easy to lose control.) The senator got wound up in his Harriet Beecher Stowe mode in an oration about bedpans and health care, which seems to be on life-support in a Senate where Mr. Reid and his Democrats are down to a mere 20-seat majority and can't get much done.

Senate GOP leaders held their own jobs meeting to highlight the negative employment aspects of Obamacare. Big News: Top Medicare Official Declares Dem Plan Will RAISE Costs! Obama and the Democrats have long insisted that their plan would lower the “cost curve” for health costs and insurance. In November the Congressional Budget Office said that individual insurance premiums will rise an additional 10% under the Democrat plan . Last week, the chief actuary at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, part of the Health and Human Services Dept., declared that under the Dem plan health care costs would increase by $234 billion more than if no plan were enacted. Plus, many hospitals which are already on a financial knife’s edge would be pushed firmly into the red.

GLSEN’s porn pushing on 14 year-olds was OK because they were instructing the young teens on how to build dental dams and not on how to fist. Oh, that’s a relief. After all, shouldn’t every child know how to build a dental dam? It’s now clear that Media Matters will go to any length to defend any perverted act by any Obama Administration official.   This is essentially the collapse of health care reform in the United States Senate. Honestly the best thing to do right now is kill the Senate bill, go back to the House, start the reconciliation process, where you only need 51 votes and it would be a much simpler bill. Kinzel added that Dean essentially said that if Democratic leaders cave into Joe Lieberman right now they’ll be left with a bill that’s not worth supporting. Dean had previously endorsed the Medicare buy-in compromise without a public option, saying that the key question should be whether the bill contains enough “real reform” to be worthy of progressives’ support. Dean has apparently concluded that the “real reform” has been removed at Lieberman’s behest " which won’t make it easier for liberals to swallow the emerging compromise.

The summary goes out in a blaze of publicity, but there is no means of checking whether it represents what the scientists actually said, because the scientific report isn’t published for another four months or more. In the Fourth Assessment, the summary was quietly replaced several months after it was first published because some scientists who were involved complained of misrepresentation. In the early years of the IPCC, there was a slightly different process. The Summary for Policy Makers and the scientific reports were issued at the same time. In those years, however, the Summary for Policy Makers bore a warning that it was the last current word on the subject, whereas the scientific reports were correctly identified as being subject to continuing development.

With socialism dead, the gigantic heist is now proposed as a sacred service of the newest religion: environmentalism. One of the major goals of the Copenhagen climate summit is another NIEO shakedown: the transfer of hundreds of billions from the industrial West to the Third World to save the planet by, for example, planting green industries in the tristes tropiques . Politically it's an idea of genius, engaging at once every left-wing erogenous zone: rich man's guilt, post-colonial guilt, environmental guilt. But the idea of shaking down the industrial democracies in the name of the environment thrives not just in the refined internationalist precincts of Copenhagen. It thrives on the national scale too.
